When I started my blog, I wanted to have a good name for it. I am a Beerbower; we enjoy naming things. It was one of our favorite parts of having puppies when we were younger, and is one of our favorite parts of having chickens. (Not to mention babies!)
A name did not immediately come to mind, however, and I wanted to start, so I employed the most obviously fitting title one could come up with: Jeannette's Blog. And the most boring. I'll think about it for a while, I thought, and when I come up with a good one I'll change it, before anyone even knows I have a blog to name.
Obviously that didn't happen, since I still haven't changed it and due to the engagement post and posts about the church, lots of people saw it.
Melody made a list of titles for me, but I didn't choose them. (I shall not duplicate her spelling.)
From her list, "Jeannette's Jangles," "Jewels from Jeannette's Brain," "BJB" (Blog Jeannette Blog), "Merely Jeannette's Insanity," and "General Genetics of Jeannette" did not appeal to me.
"Jems and Jewels," "General Applause," "Jeannie with Dark Brown hair," "Double N, Double T," and "I Do things the Long Way (Namewise)" didn't seem relevant. (Not to mention that they also did not appeal to me.)
"General Randomness," "Whatever I Feel Like," "J," "P+J" (Pictures and Jeannette), "For My Enjoyment," "Blogging of Jeannette," "My Musings" and "Pictures with Blogging" may be relevant, but undesirable.
"Inklings," "Images and Inklings," and "The Thoughtful Spot" were pretty appealing compared to her other suggestions.
I wanted something interesting, not just obvious, but also appropriate. One that I would think, "That's a good name for my blog," when I heard it. My friend has a blog called For What It's Worth. It is such a perfect name for her blog, which is perhaps even more random than mine.
The title I seriously considered, that seemed to fit, was Pictures, Poems, 'N' Prose. Other than Inklings, it was the only one of Melody's suggestions I liked and almost used. When Melody started a blog a few months later, she named it, Poems, Prose, and Poppycock. It's perfect.
I still considered calling mine Pictures, Poems, 'N' Prose. It perfectly demonstrates the difference between our blogs. Melody does serious about as often as I do poppycock. (Melody looked up that word to make sure it wasn't bad or anything. It simply means nonsense.) It's not that Melody can't do serious-she does, and it's usually good-or that I don't enjoy doing silly writing (I do) but writing funny things comes easily to her. I like writing fun things, and while I do write things that amuse myself, I cannot write funny things like she can. Like her hilarious poem she wrote for me, To Grieve or Not to Grieve. I'd love to write funny things, but I can't like she can. So, I do poppycock about as often as she does pictures-and when she does put up pictures, I am usually am the one who took them.
I also debated what to call my photo-a-day blog for some time. What I wanted to do was a spin off of "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." I wanted to do "a photo a day," and I wanted the next part to rhyme. Again, Melody had some lovely suggestions, but as we didn't write those down, I cannot remember them. Most were as relevant as the ones for my blog, and almost all were too long. "Keeps me clicking away," was the best I could come up with.
I have been told I should call it, "At least three photos a day keeps me occupied because I have to weed through the 5000 I actually took." I suppose it is true in an exaggerated sort of way. Maybe if there were a more concise way of saying that...
I did call my photo blog "A photo a day...keeps me clicking away," and, at least for now, my blog remains, ever excitingly, "Jeannette's Blog."
